Devon Days - Workshops & Courses in 2009Devon Days are held throughout the year at The Kingfisher Gallery in the delightful grounds of Sidbury Watermill. Each day begins with coffee on arrival at 10 a.m., lunch is from locally sourced products and afternoon tea rounds off a thoroughly enjoyable and friendly day at approximately 4 p.m. The cost of each day is £45 per person and for most courses all necessary materials are provided and included in this charge. One or two courses require you to bring some items of your own and occasionally you may wish to purchase specialist equipment. We are sure that you will enjoy your day in Devon at The Kingfisher Gallery. PROGRAMME OF EVENTS – MAY TO DECEMBER 2009MAY 16th – THE ART OF PAINTING ON FABRICTutor: Yvonne Johnson. A themed day “House and Garden” to create a design and paint it onto fabric. Suitable for cushion covers, wall hangings, small quilts, etc. Suitable for beginners or those with some experience. (Closing date 23rd April) Application Form JUNE 27th – ANYONE CAN ARRANGE FLOWERS!Tutor: Judith Stephens. A one day workshop for complete beginners and those who believe they really can’t arrange flowers. You will find you are more creative than you realised and will go home with two arrangements – plus some inspiration! Flowers, foliage and equipment provided but please bring your own secateurs. (Closing date 1st June) Application Form JUNE 28th – OUR DAILY BREAD!Tutor: John Stephens. Spend a day learning about the entire process of flour production. Learn about the different varieties of wheat, the harvesting and drying processes, milling and flour production by waterpower and go home with your own freshly-baked stoneground, wholemeal loaf. Materials all provided but please bring Wellington boots in case the weather is wet. (Closing date 1st June) Application Form AUGUST 23rd – PEN AND WATERCOLOUR WASHTutor: Robert Crisp. A continuation of Robert’s earlier course in March this year but also suitable for those who have not attended before. A too frequently ignored medium, ideal for sketching en plein air and reference taking. You will need a simple watercolour box of paints, together with numbers 3 and 5 watercolour brushes. Particularly important to bring is an Edding 1800 pen 0.1 which will cost approximately £2 from any art shop. (Closing date 31st July) Application Form SEPTEMBER 13th - GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR DIGITAL CAMERATutor: Adrian Oakes. A beginner’s workshop for those who were unable to obtain a place on our February workshops. Please bring your camera with batteries fully charged, together with the charger and your instruction manual. The workshop will be preceded by an Exhibition of Adrian’s work from 5-12th September, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Closing date 21st August) Application Form SEPTEMBER 27th – MORE FROM YOUR DIGITAL CAMERATutor: Adrian Oakes. Adrian’s last workshop this year to advance your knowledge. This course is for Improvers who already have a good knowledge of their digital cameras. (Closing date 1st September) Application Form OCTOBER 18th - CONTAINER GARDENING FOR WINTER INTERESTTutor: Caroline Robinson. Late autumn and winter can be a dreary time in the garden but Caroline will talk about container plants and colour schemes to create a splash of colour on patio or balcony. If you have a favourite small pot, do bring it along. Materials will be provided but we suggest you bring gardening gloves for our practical session in the afternoon. This will be outdoors, but under cover, so bring a warm coat if the weather is cool. (Closing date 1st October) Application Form NOVEMBER 1st – LEARN THE ART OF BASKET MAKINGTutor: Linda Lemieux. This is a beginner’s “taster day” when Linda will explain about working with rush and how these products are prepared and used. Linda is a member of the Basketmakers’ Association and a very experienced tutor. Using top quality rush from Linda’s own beds in Somerset, baskets are woven on moulds to give pleasing and useful shapes. Rush is soft and easy to handle and there will be a choice of projects from a simple coaster or casserole mat to a more elaborate artist’s brush container or bread basket. Materials for this workshop are not included in the price of the day because you may choose what you wish to make. Costs would range from £5 - £18. (Closing date 1st October) Application Form NOVEMBER 6th – THE ART OF PAINTING ON FABRICTutor: Yvonne Johnson. A themed day “FANTASY AND FUN”. With Christmas approaching, use imaginative ideas and create your design, then paint it onto fabric. Make gifts of wall hangings, cushion covers or other ideas with help from Yvonne. Paint and make up your chosen item. Suitable for all abilities. (Closing date 15th October) Application Form DECEMBER 1st - SPECIAL CHRISTMAS FLOWERSTutor: Meriel Hill. Meriel has wide experience both of professional flower arranging and of interior design, a combination which will provide a day of interest and pleasure in creating flowers for Christmas. You will go home with a Christmas wreath for the door and a table arrangement. Materials will be provided but please bring secateurs and an apron.(Closing date 15th November) Application Form |
