PROGRAMME OF EVENTS – 201016th January – The Art of GildingTutor: Lesley Watson. Learn basic gilding techniques using bronze powders, gilt wax, liquid leaf and dutch metal leaf. Also learn how to incorporate gilding to produce a stunning effect with paint finishes. You will go home with a completed picture frame. A perfect introduction to the delights and mysteries of glass engraving. You will learn about the engraving process and design work and then engrave a pattern onto glass yourself. Cost: £55. A half day workshop 1.30-5 p.m. Sarah uses high quality silver to make her jewellery and on this taster day will be teaching you how to use silver to make beautiful earrings. Cost: £30. (Closing date: 15th February 2010) Application Form 13th March – Willow SculptureTutor: Fiona Hingston. Create a willow sculpture for your garden. Fiona has photographs from which you can choose an item to make, or you may have your own ideas. This workshop is limited to 8 to give Fiona time to assist you. All materials provided but please bring a sharp pair of secateurs. Unsuitable for anyone with weak wrists who may find it difficult to bend the willow. Using pen and water colour wash, choose from Robert’s own photographs to paint this charismatic city. Bring a simple box of watercolour paints, numbers 3 and 5 brushes and an Edding 1800 pen 0.1. Learn the gentle art of painting on silk using a resist line and water-based dyes. Don’t worry if drawing is not your strength. Liz can show you ways round that! Whatever the occasion, steal the show with a gorgeous bag – designed by you! Never sewn? Not a problem. Doreen’s skill in matching and toning colours in a “crazy patchwork” design creates wonderful results and you will design and make a super bag to take home using lovely materials, threads and beads. A day for beginners using various instruments to make music. All students will have the time to try out the drum kit with instruction from Jay. Cost: £55. Meet on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. for discussion, preparation and planning. On Saturday & Sunday meet at 10 a.m. There will be a summing up and critique before departure on Sunday. A list of items to bring with you will be sent nearer the time. Cost: £135 (Local bed and breakfast accommodation can be arranged). (Closing date: 15th June 2010) Application Form 24th October – The Magic of MosaicsTutor: Lesley Watson. You will create a mosaic stand or wall hanging. You will learn how to cut and lay mosaic pieces using the direct method and your piece will be finished, grouted and cleaned to take home. Mosaic techniques can be put to many uses in the home and garden. N.B. to enable you to finish your piece, this will be a longer day and may not finish until 5 p.m. Numbers are limited to eight. As for the March workshop but this time we shall be painting the beautiful city of Paris in the autumn. Cost: £55. Watercolour will then be added using the “colour building” technique or you may prefer to use pen and ink to produce a finished observational drawing. Please bring an HB pencil, rubber, watercolour paints and some small to medium size round headed brushes, size approx. 3,4, 5, 6. A Pilot drawing pen or an Edding pen 1800 size 0.4 or 0.5 in black ink for drawing. Complete beginners welcome. Suitable paper will be provided. Cost: £55. (Closing date: 15th October 2010) Application Form 21st November – Christmas FlowersTutor: Sarah Hills-Ingyon. Door and tree decorations plus a candle arrangement. Demonstration by Sarah followed by practical work. If you can, bring some foliage as well as secateurs and a candle of choice. Also any other accessories you may wish to use such as coloured ribbons. Suitable for French Improvers level. The day will include conversation, art, literature, music, food and “un petit marche francais” with Christmas gifts.
